Engage our community in the development of housing that Emmet County’s workforce can afford.

It’s a simple mission with an overwhelmingly complex solution, which is why it will take our community working together to make it happen.

Build the Partnership.

Bring together key members of the housing “community”— land owners, developers, construction companies, financial institutions, local governments, major employers, property managers, nonprofit agencies, technical training institutions, realtors, architects, foundations, and others — to identify and acknowledge the problem and together develop solutions.

Build the Resources.

Gather the knowledge, materials, and peoplepower to help members of the Partnership overcome the challenges facing the affordable housing market.

Build the Homes.

Be a catalyst throughout the community to break down barriers that will lead to the construction of more homes and housing units so that those who wish to work and raise families in our community can have a safe and comfortable place to live.

Our approach to advocacy:

LTBHP Checklist sm.jpg

To create a grassroots coalition of people who understand the area’s housing crisis, have lost employees or prospective employees due to the housing crisis, or were unable to find housing themselves.  We want to mobilize these people to tell their stories to local units of government to raise the level of understanding with elected and appointed leaders.

  1. State our goals. Often.

  2. Define the obstacles.

  3. Build a coalition through agreement.

  4. Identify extra issues.

  5. Make the game plan.

  6. Implement. Revisit above steps. Implement again.

  7. Celebrate our achievements!
